The 2011 edition of the Spring Two Man was played on Saturday, May 14th.
The thirty eight player field saw a perfect Spring morning and a beautifully groomed layout for this annual “blind- draw” event.
Players teed off at 8:00 AM in a shotgun start. The field moved through the 18 holes, kept their own gross score, turned their scorecards in to the Pro Shop and were done in an efficient 4 hours. The scoring was completed using a software program, purchased by the Club, called “Tourna-Card”. This allows the Pro Shop to score and payout the tournament in much simpler, more efficient manner than ever before. Great appreciation to Tom Kennedy and my assistant, Will Styler, for their acumen and dexterity in the set-up and administering of this program.
Results:
DIVISION ONE:
1st Place…Ben Benson/Al Carlson…$250.00.
Mr. Benson a, smooth 4 handicapper, rode Mr. Carlson (8) who shot 75, like a show pony to the victory.
2nd Place…Kevin Brown(5) /Greg Chillquist(15)…$150.00
3rd Place…Steve Leonard(5) /Kevin Ostlund(11)…$75.00
DIVISION TWO:
1st Place…Lenny Marshall(15) /Tom Kennedy(14)…$250.00
These two guys, the sweet swinging Mr. Marshall and the efficient, compact swinging Mr. Kennedy (he shot 39 on the back nine), ham and egged it to this well deserved victory.
2nd Place…Bob Ostlund (22)/Jeff Davidson (16)…$150.00
3rd Place…Torey Azure (8)/Scott Seelye (13)…$75.00
CLOSEST TO THE PIN WINNERS:
DIVISION ONE
Jeff MORRISON….Jeff managed to capture two KPs with shots of 8 feet and 6’10” at hole numbers 2 and 6,respectively.
Dana CHRISTIANSON...also bagged two KPs with iron shots darted in there ( at holes 11 an 15 )to 11’2″ and 7’10”.
DIVISION TWO
Jeff DAVIDSON…Hit a beauty in there at #11 to 4’10”.
Jerry BRUGLER…Mr. Brugler hit the shot of the day with an iron shot on the second hole which came to a rest a mere 24″ from the cup. This shot, coupled with the fact that nobody (in DIVISION TWO) hit either the 6th green or the 15th green (which carries the KP money over) AND the fact that Mr. Brugler was the CLOSEST OF THE CLOSE means that he took home some $70.00 American dollars for his efforts. Nice Shot, Jerry!
Thanks to all whose efforts made this event a success;
Dana Christianson and his Tournament Committee (he also fed the masses with fruit for breakfast and pizza for lunch, both meals sponsored by SUMNER CARPET ONE.)
Amanda Brunaugh brought over some of the famous “Cowboy Caviar” and we all bellied up to the chuck wagon to “sling a lip”over some of that delicious concoction.
Thane and his staff for preparing the course for this event. It has been an uphill battle all Spring for our Greens Crew and their efforts do not go unoticed by all in attendance.
My staff. Will Styler, Carl Zook, Tony Fatica, Patrick Comen (who does double duty on the Greens Crew, too) and Shane Patrick. It is our great fortune that a quality staff such as this has made Linden their home.
Lastly, thanks to all the competitors. The winners played well and the others can only think about that one shot that got away!
